“Ah Fong” – A Story on the Train

- Ah Fong, a salesperson, sets out to work in the morning. Everyday she feels tired so she grasps her last chance to take a rest on her way to work.

- She eyes on the floor without any emotion. Like many who lives in the city, she avoids looking at others in the suffocating train compartment.

- She receives an SMS message from a friend through mobile phone. This may be her only compliment of a day to live in this city. Without hesitation, she replies the message by pressing the buttons swiftly. And, she returns to silence. One minute later, her face moves slightly when she receives her friend’s reply. She replies at once. And, again, she returns to silence.

- As in everyday, she does her make-up on the train. She takes out her dusting powder, eyes liner pencil and lips-stick from a pocket. She starts to do her make up.

- She puts her stuff back to the pocket when the train is approaching her destination. She stands by the door looking at the glass on it. She spends the last seconds on figuring her hair and dress. At last, she leaves when the compartment door opens.
